1400 GIRLS OFFER STREET SEX.


THE latest figures show 1400 cases involving prostitutes soliciting for sex on Scottish streets.

Most are in Glasgow Glasgow, city, Scotland
Glasgow (glăs`gō, –kō, glăz`gō), city (1991 pop. 688,500) and council area, S central Scotland, on the river Clyde.
 and Edinburgh, with a few cases elsewhere.

No figures exist for men seeking sex, as this will not be an offence until the law is tightened in 2008.

Although it is a crime for a man to be caught having sex with a prostitute prostitute n. a person who receives payment for sexual intercourse or other sexual acts, generally as a regular occupation. Although usually a prostitute refers to a woman offering sexual favors to men, male prostitutes may perform homosexual acts for money or  in a public place, the frequency of this can't be gleaned from statistics.

This is recorded along with the wider spectrum of "indecency INDECENCY. An act against good behaviour and a just delicacy. 2 Serg. & R. 91.
     2. The law, in general, will repress indecency as being contrary to good morals, but, when the public good requires it, the mere indecency of disclosures does not suffice to exclude
" crimes. The, figures, for the year up to October 2005 are up 40 per cent over 10 years.

The Executive announced last November that the offence of soliciting, I which punishes prostitutes for attempting to sell sex, is to be scrapped.

The new offence covering both sexes I will carry harsher penalties, with fines of up to pounds 500.

At present in Scotland, women convicted of soliciting are fined pounds 75 for 1 a first offence.
