140-Year-Old Marine Street Home to Sell in J.P. King Auction.


ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. -- Karen and Tom Hogan's historic Marine Street home overlooking the Intracoastal Waterway Intracoastal Waterway, c.3,000 mi (4,827 km) long, partly natural, partly artificial, providing sheltered passage for commercial and leisure boats along the U.S. Atlantic coast from Boston, Mass. to Key West, S Fla.  has been used as a military hospital, a boat repair shop, an upscale apartment house and a home. But its future will be up to the new owners as the Hogans prepare to sell the property at auction on Thursday, June 21.

"This home has had a lot of lives, and it'll be interesting to see what its future holds," said Craig King Craig Anthony King (b. 16 March, 1984) in Perth. He is an Australian cricketer who plays for the Western Warriors. , president of J.P. King, which will manage the sale. Bidders will gather at the property at 2 p.m. for the bidding contest.

Shortly after the Civil War, the property was built as a new military hospital, located on the property now occupied by the U.S. National Cemetery on the west side of the street. Between 1910 and 1917, it was moved across the street to its current location (105 Marine Street), and a few years later it was expanded into the Velrica Apartments (the name combining parts of the name of proprietor proprietor n. the owner of anything, but particularly the owner of a business operated by that individual.
