14-YEAR-OLD SLAIN AT FLORIDA SCHOOL IN DISPUTE OVER $40.Byline: Associated Press Children arriving for school watched in horror Monday as a 13-year-old boy who claimed he was owed $40 fatally shot another youngster in the chest. Fourteen-year-old John Kamel died on the sidewalk in front of Conniston Middle School. The suspect, Tronneal Mangum, fled campus and was arrested a short time later on a charge of first-degree murder. Police say they found a gun under a portable classroom. ``All we heard was two shots, pop-pop,'' said pupil Angel Rivera. ``The other kids were screaming and yelling like crazy,'' said a 13-year-old boy who gave his name as Anthony. ``I saw him pull the gun out of his jacket. He held it right up to his chest . . . and bang, John fell down. He just kind of went backwards. Then the boy shot him again while he was lying down,'' Anthony said. ``I ran up to John, and I asked him, `Are you all right, John?' He said, `Yeah. I'm all right.' His voice was kind of weak, and you could hardly hear him. But then he closed his eyes, and he didn't talk anymore,'' said Anthony, whose mother didn't want his last name published. |
