14 killed in clashes, 10 fuel tankers torched.
The clash took place on Monday morning in the district, where more than hundred Pakistani and Chechen rebels attacked security check posts in Qaisar district, police chief, Brig. Gen. Abdul Khaliq Aqsai, told Pajhwok Afghan News.
He said 10 rebels were killed and the dead bodies of three rebels remained at the scene, but their identities could not be ascertained as the clash was still going on.
He said the Afghan National Army (ANA) and police were jointly fighting against the rebels.
In a telephonic interview with Pajhwok, Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi said their fighters pushed back government forces in Qaisar district, killing three soldiers and injuring four others.
He said the clashes were ongoing and they have also detained a policeman along with his weapons.
The administrative head of Qaisar, Mohammad Siddiqu Hamidyar said the clash was taking place in Khwaja Kenti area -- where a local policeman was killed and another injured so far.
In central Maidan Wardak, 10 fuel tankers supplying NATO-led troops were torched by armed insurgents along Kabul-Ghazni highway, said the governor's spokesman.
Shahidullah Shahid said the incidents took place in Millie Khel, Haft Asiab and Shash Qala areas of Syedabad district, where eight fuel tankers were burned down late Sunday.
He said one driver was killed while two guards and a soldier injured in the incidents.
He accused the convoy's drivers of being careless because most times they stopped their vehicles that allowed rebels to attack.
"Whenever one vehicle is set on fire by the rebels other drivers stop their vehicles, giving chance for rebels to torch their trucks as well,'' he added.
He said they have recommended to security companies to provide good security along highway or inform local security offices about the movement of the convoy.
According to a security source, another two fuel tankers were torched in Aziz Qala area between Syedabad district and Ghazni city.
A Taliban spokesman, Zabihullah Mujahid said their fighters attacked NATO-led convoy in different areas of Syedabad district on Sunday, destroying over 25 vehicles and killing and injuring several soldiers.
In eastern Laghman, three mine planters were killed during a clash with ANA soldiers in katal area in Mehtarlam city, eastern Laghman province's capital on Sunday night, said Sarhadi Zwak, the governor's spokesman.
