14 Million MULTOS Cards Confirms Multi-Application Market.


CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 12, 1999--

Mycal Card Company Issues First of 5 Million MULTOS Cards in Japan

Announcement by MasterCard International together with Identicator Technology, Logicon Inc and ORGA Card Systems - Governments and Corporations are now able to maximise the power of the chip in respect to overall security and purchasing, either traditionally or over the Internet. Logicon has developed three MULTOS applications for the card, allowing asset tracking and strengthened computer, network and web site security. Identicator Technology has also placed its popular BioLogon 2.0 and BioCard 2.0 onto the MULTOS smart card; a biometric profile (fingerprints) is stored and used to confirm identity when matched with a biometric reader. Finally ORGA Card systems have completed the five MULTOS applications by including an enhanced P.r.a.c.t.i.c.e access product which manages the physical access of the card holder.

British Universities Migrate to MULTOS

Three of Britain's leading universities are set to become `smart campuses' by issuing MULTOS smart cards to all of their students and staff. With 23,000 cards already ordered and more set to follow, the early adopting educational institutions include Nottingham, Exeter and York. MULTOS will allow the universities to offer innovative education services and develop greater efficiency in administration, whilst making the campuses more secure for their residents.

MAOSCO Joins ETSI (European Telecommunications Standards Institute, Sophia Antipolis technical park, Nice, France, www.etsi.org) A non-profit membership organization founded in 1988, dedicated to standardizing information and communication technologies (ICT) throughout Europe.

MAOSCO, the open industry consortium behind the MULTOS smart card operating system, has been accepted as a full member of the European Telecommunications Standards Institute (body) European Telecommunications Standards Institute - (ETSI) A European version of the ITU-T(?).  (ETSI).

MAOSCO is working with the ETSI to contribute to the on-going development of the GSM standards applicable to smart cards which will enable mobile phones to be used in a number of new ways such as mobile ATMs for downloading electronic cash or downloading electronic tickets for airlines or entertainment.

Prism Joins the MULTOS Global Supplier Network

Prism Card Technologies, a division of the Prism Group of companies, announces it has joined the MULTOS Global Supplier Network and will now offer a range of MULTOS products and services in its native South Africa and internationally.
