) announced today that 14 elite independent international cupping jurors will judge Coffee Pacifica's "Pride of PNG (Portable Network Graphics) A bitmapped graphics file format endorsed by the World Wide Web Consortium. It is expected to eventually replace the GIF format, because there are lingering legal problems with GIFs.  2005" International Coffee Cupping Coffee cupping, or coffee tasting, is the practice of observing the tastes and aromas of brewed coffee. It is a professional practise but can be done informally by anyone or by professionals known as Master Tasters.  Competition. These jurors represent coffee consuming markets of Italy, Netherlands, USA, Australia and New Zealand New Zealand (zē`lənd), island country (2005 est. pop. 4,035,000), 104,454 sq mi (270,534 sq km), in the S Pacific Ocean, over 1,000 mi (1,600 km) SE of Australia. The capital is Wellington; the largest city and leading port is Auckland. . The competition is open to all coffee farmers of PNG. To date, 200 one-tonne lots of parchment coffee has been submitted by 140 co-operatives who are shareholders of PNG Coffee Growers Federation Ltd. Non-PNG Coffee Growers Federation Ltd. participants have also submitted their samples. This historic cupping competition is organized under strict coffee cupping guidelines similar to other international cupping competitions. The pre-selection phase commenced on September 19, 2005, and finals are scheduled to commence on September 26, 2005, and conclude with the award ceremonies on September 30, 2005.
