The 31-year-old even forced himself on his other victim as his baby son slept in the same room. Casey's youngest victim - who is now 18 - wrote in her diary: "I wish I was dead." She told the court Casey, of Closes Road, Fairhill, Co Cork, raped her while she was getting ready for a birthday party and threatened she would not be allowed to see her nephew - his son - if she told anybody. He also use to drop one of the girls over to his sister's house to babysit and would then call over in the middle of the night and rape her. Casey even abused one of the girls when she came to live with her older sister and him after she had an argument with her mother. The younger girl was also raped when she came to over to mind his son. She said on one occasion she was abused when his child was in the same room. Her now 20-year-old sister gave evidence that during the time of the abuse she began cutting herself and lost weight drastically. She began to self-harm around 2002 and continued to do so until she sought help in 2005. A social worker said the then 16-year-old girl appeared to be "emotionally immature immature /im·ma·ture/ (im?ah-chldbomacr´) unripe or not fully developed. im·ma·ture adj. Not fully grown or developed. immature unripe or not fully developed. " for her age and began to a lot of lose weight. Casey was convicted by a jury last February on eight charges involving four counts of rape and four counts of sexual assault on dates in 2003 and 2004 at three Cork addresses. He had pleaded not guilty to 14 charges at the start of his trial. The jury failed to reach a decision on three of the counts and acquitted him on three others, two of these by direction of the judge. At the Central Criminal Court yesterday Mr Justice McCarthy was told the younger victim has been admitted into psychiatric care on occasions as a result of the abuse. He was also told she kept a diary in which she recorded what happened and the effect it had on her, causing her "to hate my life". Mr Justice McCarthy directed that Casey's name be added to the sex offenders' register and said while sex offender sex offender n. generic term for all persons convicted of crimes involving sex, including rape, molestation, sexual harassment and pornography production or distribution. treatment courses were available, rehabilitation rehabilitation: see physical therapy. could only happen if the offender accepted responsibility but Casey had not done so. The judge imposed six-year concurrent sentences on the earlier rape charges regarding the elder victim and a consecutive seven-year term for later rapes on this victim. The judge also gave a consecutive seven-year term for the rapes on the second victim, totalling 14 years, but suspended the final year of that term.
