135 Children From Chernobyl Enjoy Summer Break in America At Showcase Cinemas and Variety Club Events Far Away From the Devastation At Home.

On Sunday July 16, 2000, Showcase Cinemas and the Variety Club of New England will entertain 135 Russian children and their interpreters on an American holiday far away from the devastation they know at home in Chernobyl. As guests of the "GREATEST CHILDREN'S CHARITY IN THE WORLD", the children will take part in a number of special events, including a movie at Showcase Cinemas Revere along with popcorn, soda, candy, movie merchandise "goodie bags" and more.

Following the movie, the children will enjoy an American cookout with hot dogs and hamburgers as well as scenic hayrides, pony rides and a visit to a traveling zoo provided by Showcase and the City of Lynn.

Variety is a children's charity that helps sponsor orphanages and schools for needy children. The Variety Club of New England and the Boston Braves founded the "Jimmy Fund" for cancer research in the early forties.
