13 insurgents killed in Paktika, claims NATO.
The International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) press office told Pajhwok Afghan News that the operations were launched yesterday in Barmal and Orgun districts of the province.
It said they were tipped off about a Taliban plan to attack border checkpoints in Marghai area of Barmal.
As a result, the forces bombarded the insurgents and killed 10 of them before they could target the checkpoints. Separately, the press office said, three fighters were killed and some of them detained in Pirkot area of Orgun. However, residents alleged the NATO troops killed three civilians and arrested 14 others.
A dweller of the area, Sher Nawaz Pirkoti, claimed the forces killed civilians and detained teenaged children.
A statement from the ISAF press office in Kabul said a joint force detained suspected militants during a search in the Gilan district of Ghazni province. A group of suspected militants was held after the search of compounds northeast of Khost City known.
The search was conducted without incident, the alliance added. In Syedabad district of Maidan Wardak province, a joint force arrested several suspected militants after searching a series of buildings known to be used by a Taliban facilitator and his element.
The group was suspected of providing financial support and for supplying weapons and improvised explosive devices to other militants.
