13 foreigners die in Saudi road accident

At least 13 South Asian workers riding in the back of a pickup truck were killed Friday when it collided head-on with another vehicle, police said.

All were employees of Saudi Aramco, the state-owned oil company.

Eight victims were from Bangladesh, two were Indian and three were Pakistani, police official Hamad Fawzan said. Eighteen people were injured, with nine reported in critical condition.

The truck crashed near Baqeeq, 240 miles east of the capital, Riyadh.

Bangladesh private television station Bangla Vision said 11 Bangladeshis were killed when their bus collided with another vehicle. It reported the names of the dead and said at least 13 Bangladeshi workers were hospitalized.

The conflicting reports could not immediately be reconciled.
