13 Shops issued Warnings over
Consumer Goods Price Hikes.


Summary: AL GHARBIA -- Altogether 13 shops, supermarkets and malls in Al Gharbia (Western Region) were issued warnings for increasing the prices of consumer items arbitrarily during Ramadan Ramadan (rämädän`, răm'ədän`), in Islam, the ninth month of the Muslim year, during which all Muslims must fast during the daylight hours. Indulgence of any sort is forbidden during the fast. .

The action was taken after officials from the Consumer Protection Department carried out inspection following several complaints from people, said Zayed Bashir, Market Controller in Al Gharbia.

A number of trading establishments took undue advantage of Ramadan to increase the prices, he said, adding that strict legal action would be taken against those who repeat the violations and do not heed the warnings.

Residents of Al Gharbia have been facing a steep rise in the prices of commodities and services as compared to other areas in the emirate e·mir·ate
