1205th coming on strong. (Letters to the Editor).

As a current member of the 1205th Transportation Railway Operating Battalion battalion

Tactical military organization composed of a headquarters and two or more companies, batteries, or similar units and usually commanded by a field-grade officer such as a lieutenant colonel.
, I enjoyed reading the Sept/Oct 2000 TRANSLOG Story, "1205th Chugs Along." In fact, I was at Sunny Point for annual training when your correspondent visited.

The article errs, however, when it states that reservists have been training at Sunny Point since the 1980s, and that railway operations were disbanded following the Vietnam War Vietnam War, conflict in Southeast Asia, primarily fought in South Vietnam between government forces aided by the United States and guerrilla forces aided by North Vietnam. . Members of predecessor units of the 1205th started training at Sunny Point in 1979, and while the ranks of railway units were certainly thinned out in the 1970s, they have never disappeared entirely.

These days the 1205th is coming on strong. With that in mind, the 226th is being inactivated inactivated

The 226th will be reactivated at Westover Air Reserve Base, Mass., in March 2001, as an element of the 1205th TROB. Already, the 1205th is successfully recruiting new soldiers to man the "new" 226th.
