 is shedding another 1,200 jobs after new vehicle sales slumped.

It brings to 3,600 the number of workers due to be axed by July of next year.

 will fall outside of the UK but 564 jobs are due to be shed here, with plans to close three factories in Birmingham and Burnley.

GKN crashed from pounds 132million profit to an pounds 8m loss in the first half of the year. The firm, which specialises in making driveshafts for major car manufacturers, also produces parts for tractors, diggers and planes.
