12 new Learning Tree courses receive ACE/PONSI recommendation for college credit.RESTON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 1995--Twelve of Learning Tree International's advanced information technology training courses have successfully completed evaluation by the American Council on Education Established in 1918, the American Council on Education (ACE) is a United States organization comprising over 1,800 accredited, degree-granting colleges and universities and higher education-related associations, organizations, and corporations. (ACE) and received recommendations for college credits. The addition of these 12 courses brings Learning Tree's total number of ACE-recommended courses to 88. Through ACE's PONSI PONSI Program On Non-collegiate Sponsored Instruction program, courses are reviewed by a team of content experts selected from ACE member college faculties. The ACE/PONSI ACE/PONSI American Council On Education/Program On Noncollegiate Sponsored Instruction team provides an in-depth review of courses to determine whether the training is comparable to college-level curriculum and, if so, makes recommendations regarding the appropriate number and level of credits to be awarded for successful completion of each course. According to Dr. E. Nelson Swinerton, director of ACE/PONSI, "It has long been the policy of ACE that learning outside the classroom can be measured for college credit. With mounting concern about America's 'productive edge,' organizations in business and industry, as well as local and federal government, are having employee training programs evaluated for possible college credit recommendations. Knowing that superior training increases productivity, more and more organizations are turning to ACE/PONSI to assure the quality of that training." Swinerton describes the ACE/PONSI course review as thorough, involving analysis of the course development process, in-depth review of course materials, and interviews with students, instructors and administrators. "The Learning Tree courses we reviewed were of high quality because they taught college-level skills and concepts," he said. The Learning Tree courses recently reviewed by ACE/PONSI are: -- Hands-On Windows(TM) 95 -- Introduction to SYBASE(R) -- Introduction to Oracle7(TM) -- Oracle7 for Database Administrators: Hands-On -- Oracle7 for Application Developers: Hands-On -- Tuning Oracle7 Applications: Hands-On -- Complex Queries with SQL SQL in full Structured Query Language. Plus: Hands-On -- Oracle Reports: Hands-On -- NetWare(R) 3.x Installation and Configuration -- Negotiating Skills for Technical Managers and Professionals -- Ada 95 Object-Oriented Programming: Hands-On Introduction -- Hands-On Internet for Business Applications "The review process for ACE/PONSI qualification is rigorous, but we are committed to the process and the ACE/PONSI program," said Alan Salisbury, president of Learning Tree International. "We believe these recommendations give us a competitive advantage in quality assurance. It is also appealing to employers to offer training courses that can be used as part of employees' degree programs." More than 3,500 individuals have applied for college credit for approximately 8,000 courses taken through Learning Tree.
