Like all good Scouts Good Scouts (1938) is a Donald Duck cartoon which features Donald as the leader of Huey, Dewey, and Louie's scout troop.

The cartoon begins with Donald and his nephews hiking in the great outdoors in Yellowstone National Park.

Along with his family he provided the lead gift for the construction of the newly unveiled headquarters for the Boy Scouts regional Oregon Trail Oregon Trail, overland emigrant route in the United States from the Missouri River to the Columbia River country (all of which was then called Oregon). The $2 million building, christened the Herb Nill Family and Guaranty Scout Center, opens to the public Saturday. Nill was on hand for a dedication ceremony Thursday and said giving back to the Scouts has been easy to do because of all Scouting scouting: see Boy Scouts; Girl Scouts.

Activities of various national and worldwide organizations for youth aimed at developing character, citizenship, and individual skills. Scouting began when Robert S.
 has done for him.

"The Boy Scout movement has been so important to me since I was 12 years old," Nill said, fighting back tears as he accepted the thanks of local Scouting supporters. "It gave me a determination that has been really a part of my life."

More than just a building, the 9,400-square-foot leadership center is a home for the Oregon Trail Council's far-flung troops. The council serves almost 12,000 Scouts in a region that includes all of Lane, Douglas, Lincoln, Benton, Coos and Curry counties Curry County is the name of several counties in the United States:

Saturday's public open house will begin at 10 a.m. and include tours of the building along with free hot dogs, drinks and ice cream. The building is at 2525 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. across from Autzen Stadium The stadium is tucked between the Willamette River and Coburg Hills. , the council's executive director, said one of the best things about the center is the 1,400-square-foot training room, a modern space to help volunteers hone leadership skills.

"We can provide them all the training they need to be effective Scout leaders," he said. "We know that the more training we give them, the more effective they'll be and the longer boys will stay in the program."

The retail store also will make it easier for troop leaders and parents, who will have a central location for all their Scouting supplies. Even Scouts in the further reaches of the council's territory will benefit.

"They don't have to look in our catalog and order things," Quirk said. "Chances are we'll have it here and can ship it out that day."

The building was designed by architect Richard Barbis and built by John Hyland Construction. It is the centerpiece of a $2.4 million Building Character fundraising campaign, led by Register-Guard chairman Ted Baker and Evergreen Development Group president Jeff Lynn.

In addition to the Scout center, money from the campaign will fund improvements to the Scout's Florence-area Camp Baker, help launch a Scouting and soccer program aimed at Latino youth and bolster the council's endowment fund Noun 1. endowment fund - the capital that provides income for an institution

.

In addition to the Nill family's $500,000 lead gift, more than 250 individuals and businesses contributed to the drive, which Baker pronounced a success.

"I think we can safely say the $2.4 million goal has been reached," he told the crowd of about 100 people.

Recalling his own Scouting experience and the challenges youth face today, Nill said keeping the Scouting tradition alive will pay off far into the future.

"Kids are influenced in so many ways," he said. "If they get into the Boy Scout program, even if they don't stick with it for years and years, they get so much out of it that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives."
