11th Annual Ovation Awards to Be Held at Ahmanson Theatre, Performing Arts Center.

Ovation ceremonies honoring 1999-2000 achievements in Southern California Southern California, also colloquially known as SoCal, is the southern portion of the U.S. state of California. Centered on the cities of Los Angeles and San Diego, Southern California is home to nearly 24 million people and is the nation's second most populated region,  theatre will be held Monday, October 30, 7:31 P.M. at the Ahmanson Theatre The Ahmanson Theatre is one of the four main venues that comprise the Los Angeles Music Center.

Through the generosity of philanthropist Robert H. Ahmanson, construction began on March 9, 1962.

Nominees for the 2000 Ovation Awards Established in 1989, the Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Awards are a major Southern California award for excellence in theatre with is held each November. The Ovation Awards are the only peer-judged theatre awards in Los Angeles. Called the "...  will be announced at a 4:00 P.M. ceremony September 25 at the new Colony Theatre, Burbank Center Stage, 555 North Third St., Burbank. Celebrated writer and actress Maripat Donovan will host the nominations ceremony. Donovan co-wrote and stars in "Late Night Catechism" currently running at the Coronet Theatre The Coronet Theatre is a longstanding Los Angeles theatre. Many Hollywood stars have played there, and it has been home to several important premiere productions. More than 300 plays have been produced at the Coronet. .

Established in 1989, the Theatre League Alliance of Southern California Ovation Awards were created to celebrate theatrical achievement and excellence, and are the only peer-judged, competitive theatre awards in Los Angeles. The event has become Los Angeles' biggest theatre party, uniting the entire theatre community to remember and honor the past season's accomplishments.

There are 26 categories in all, and with the exception of acting, directing, choreography and writing, there are separate awards for large and intimate theatres. In addition to the competitive categories, the Board of Governors also selects individuals to receive the Career Achievement Award and the James A. Doolittle Award for Outstanding Leadership in the Theatre.
