11th Annual CO2 Conference and Carbon Management Workshop Dates Announced; Yates Field Tour Planned.MIDLAND, Texas Midland is the county seat of Midland CountyGR6 located on the Southern Plains of the western area of the U.S. State of Texas. As of the 2006 U.S. Census estimate, the city had a total population of 102,073. -- The CO2 Conference's executive committee today announced that the 11th Annual CO2 Flooding Conference and accompanying Carbon Management Workshop have been scheduled for Dec. 6 - 9 in Midland, Texas. This year's CO2 flooding conference, set for Dec. 8 and 9, will focus on the use of carbon dioxide carbon dioxide, chemical compound, CO2, a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that is about one and one-half times as dense as air under ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure. for enhanced oil recovery Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) is a generic term for techniques for increasing the amount of oil that can be extracted from an oil field. Using EOR, 30-60 %, or more, of the reservoir's original oil can be extracted [1] compared with 20-40% [2] (EOR EOR - exclusive or ). The conference features theme sessions that examines current industry best practices in operations and reservoir management. The event will also showcase the latest technologies, strategies and expertise in CO2 flooding based on 32 years of CO2 injection in the Permian Basin The Permian Basin is a sedimentary basin largely contained in the western part of the U.S. state of Texas. It reaches from just south of Lubbock, Texas, to just south of Midland & Odessa, extending westward into the southeastern part of the adjacent state of New Mexico. and around the world. Shortcourses are offered during the conference to provide attendees with a detailed examination of EOR practices in use today. "Our 2004 conference and workshop attracted more than 300 people, representing six countries and 40 organizations," said Steve Melzer, the CO2 conference director. "This event continues to grow because it provides an excellent opportunity for attendees to learn from and exchange ideas with people actively involved in CO2 floods. It has also become a key venue and a major resource for learning more about the increasingly important role carbon management is playing in government policy and industry practices." The EOR Carbon Management Workshop is planned for Dec. 6 and 7. It will offer an in-depth look at CO2 geologic storage, its trends, developments and opportunities. Also featured is a field tour on Dec. 7 of Kinder Morgan Kinder Morgan Inc. NYSE: KMI is an American energy company. It is also, through a subsidiary, the general partner of and owner of many of the interests in Kinder Morgan Energy Partners, a publicly traded pipeline and terminal limited partnership. Production Company's Yates Field where the company conducts a gravity-dominated CO2 flood. "A carbon management strategy of increasing interest to the industry, CO2 geologic storage enables producers to convert industrial CO2 from a waste product into an asset," said Michael Moore, director of the carbon management workshop. "One example is for incremental oil or gas recovery. The other is the potential trade for emission credits. For example, CO2 credits on the European Trading Market are currently trading for just under $30/ton or $1.60/mcf," Moore pointed out. Conference sponsors include Anadarko Petroleum Corp.; Denbury Resources, Inc.; ExxonMobil Gas Marketing; Kinder Morgan CO2 Company, LP; Nicholas Consulting Group; Occidental Permian, Ltd; and the Petroleum Technology Transfer Council's Southwest and Texas regions. Other sponsors are Russell K. Hall and Associates; Trinity CO2, LLC (Logical Link Control) See "LANs" under data link protocol. LLC - Logical Link Control ; Amerada Hess Corporation; The Society of Petroleum Engineers - Permian Basin Section; The University of Texas of the Permian Basin The University of Texas of the Permian Basin (commonly called UT Permian Basin or simply UTPB) is located in Odessa, Texas. It was authorized by the Texas Legislature in 1969 and founded in 1973. Its fall 2006 enrollment was 3,480. ; and the Petroleum Professional Development Center. The CO2 flooding conference will be held at the downtown Midland Center. The EOR Carbon Management Workshop will be held at the Petroleum Museum. Conference proceeds benefit the SPE SPE - Software Practice and Experience Permian Basin Chapter's educational scholarship fund.
