117 Million Passengers Through BAA UK Airports In 1999/2000.

 plc, the UK-based airport company, today announced its seven UK airports handled a total of 117.8 million passengers in the financial year ending March 2000, a strong 4.7% rise on the previous year.

In the month of March, the airports handled a total of 9.6 million passengers, 3.2% up on last March. (Easter Easter [A.S. Eastre, name of a spring goddess], chief Christian feast, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus after his crucifixion. In the West, Easter is celebrated on the Sunday following the full moon next after the vernal equinox (see calendar); thus, it  1999 boosted traffic in the last week of March 1999 and this held back the March on March comparison). The first three weeks of March 2000 showed very solid growth of 5.6% on the same period last year.

Year to March 2000 - highlights

For the first time, BAA's Southeast Southeast or south east is the ordinal direction halfway between south and east. It the opposite of northwest.

Across the BAA Group it was the European scheduled traffic which increased most quickly (+7.7%) followed by Irish services (+6.6%) and North Atlantic (+5.5%). Air transport movements increased by 3.9% to 1.1 million.

March 2000 Highlights

Despite the late Easter in 2000 most of the key markets recorded increases, the largest at Stansted (+31.5%) and Edinburgh (+13.9%). European scheduled traffic was up by 6.5%, thanks mainly to a 77% increase at Stansted, while other long haul Long distance. Long haul implies traversing a state or a country. Contrast with short haul.  routes saw 4.8% growth. P. The later start to Easter resulted in the North Atlantic market rising by just 0.2% and European charters decreasing by 0.2%. P. The total number of air transport movements at BAA airports rose by 3.3% in the month.
