The California newspaper said the latest round of job cuts was part of an initiative that included new editorial and advertising offerings and a redesign of the company's website, SignOnSanDiego.com. A total of 192 Union-Tribune employees were let go within days of the purchase, leaving the company with 850 employees. The Union-Tribune said it would offer a new advertising program for small businesses at lower rates and an editorial effort that will produce more local coverage of targeted communities. "These are just a few things we have in mind to help us strengthen our relationship with the San Diego community and with our advertisers and readers," Union-Tribune publisher Ed Moss was quoted as saying. Like other US newspapers, the Union-Tribune has been struggling with a steep decline in print advertising revenue, falling circulation and the migration of readers to free news online. Platinum Equity is among the companies reportedly interested in purchasing the Boston Globe, which The New York New York, state, United States New York, Middle Atlantic state of the United States. It is bordered by Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and the Atlantic Ocean (E), New Jersey and Pennsylvania (S), Lakes Erie and Ontario and the Canadian province of Times Co. is seeking to sell.
