Tied for second with eight nominations apiece were Center Theatre Group's productions of ``Flower Drum Song'' (at the Mark Taper Forum), and ``Into the Woods'' (Ahmanson) and a pair of Valley shows: ``Napoli Milionaria'' at the Road Theatre Company and the Colony Theatre's ``Side Show.''

Taper productions led the way with 16 nominations followed by the Colony with 15.

The Ovations, which honor achievement in Los Angeles theater, will be held Nov. 24 at the Orpheum Theatre. The awards are sponsored by the Theatre League Alliance of Los Angeles.

: More than six dozen paintings by Italian-born portrait artist John Singer Sargent are coming to the Los Angeles County Museum of Art The Los Angeles County Museum of Art, also known as LACMA, is the official and world-renowned art museum of the County of Los Angeles, California, located on Wilshire Boulevard along Museum Row in the Miracle Mile vicinity of Los Angeles.  early next year for a three-month exhibition, it was announced Monday.

``Sargent and Italy'' will run Feb. 2 through May 11, giving audiences an understanding of the significance of Italy to the American artist, said Kirsten Schmidt of LACMA.

The exhibition will feature 75 paintings, complementing LACMA's permanent Sargent collection.

Sargent is most famous for his portraits capturing the elegance and glamour of international high society at the end of the 19th century. He began his career painting the island of Capri and the hidden byways of Venice in the 1870s and early 1880s. Between 1897 and 1914, Sargent traveled to Italy every year to paint his favorite subjects.

The artist was born in Florence in 1856 to expatriate American parents. In 1878, he made his first trip to the United States, where he claimed his American citizenship.
