10cc: The Original Soundtrack.10cc: The Original Soundtrack. Mobile Fidelity Fidelity is a notion that at its most abstract level implies a truthful connection to a source or sources. Its original meaning dealt with loyalty and attentiveness to one's duty to a lord or a king, in a broader sense than the related concept of fealty. Ultradisc II UDCD 729. A comparison of Mo-Fi's new 24K gold remastering of 10cc to the original 1975 Polygram/Mercury silver disc reveals some remarkable differences. (What do you mean, what am I doing with the original silver disc? Doesn't does·n't Contraction of does not. everyone have 10cc on their shelf? My wife bought it). The main difference is in tonal response. The silver disc appears to have a more elevated treble treble, highest part in choral music, thus corresponding in pitch to soprano, but associated with the voice of a boy or a girl. The term appeared in 15th-century English polyphony, probably as an anglicization of the Latin triplum, and bass response, giving it greater presence and more apparent transparency (1) The quality of being able to see through a material. The terms transparency and translucency are often used synonymously; however, transparent would technically mean "seeing through clear glass," while translucent would mean "seeing through frosted glass." See alpha blending. . By contrast, the new gold disc seems more neutrally balanced, and as such is not quite so immediate or ear catching. In fact, my first response to the gold after first listening to the silver was that it sounded very smooth but veiled. Such are the pitfalls of comparison testing. Which sound is more "correct" I have no idea. I'd I'd 1. Contraction of I had. 2. Contraction of I would. I'd I had or I would I'd have ~would like to think it is the new Mo-Fi and that Mercury goosed up the sound on the silver disc to increase its sales appeal. But who can tell? Maybe Mo-Fi got hold of an aged master tape. In any event, if you are fan of 10cc, you already have the silver; if it sounds at all bright or edgy to you, this new gold edition is just the ticket. |
