HUNDREDS of thousands of people are staying closer to home this Bank Holiday.

But the heavy rain and strong winds of the past few days failed to deter large numbers from travelling to holiday destinations within Ireland.

Heavy traffic is expected on all main routes, with the annual Cork Jazz Festival The Cork Jazz Festival is an annual music festival held in Cork City, Ireland in late October every year since 1978.

But tens of thousands more are jetting out for Halloween breaks in the sun.

More than 300,000 passengers are expected to travel through Dublin Airport this weekend.

Airport authorities forecast a 16 per cent increase in passenger numbers on last year.

More than 2,000 flights will arrive and depart.

The Canary Islands, Turkey, Spain and Portugal are among big favourites.

Bus Eireann's new 24-hour service between Dublin and Belfast is heavily booked and passengers are being advised to book tickets in advance.
