MORE than 100 Irish jobs are to be created by an Asian computer software firm, it emerged yesterday.

Enterprise Minister Micheal Martin announced the 101 posts at the opening of the Trend Micro Operations Centre at the IDA Business and Technology Park in Cork.

The move will see the firm, which provides secure and anti-virus software, almost double its workforce to 216 at the facility which handles its European, Middle Eastern and African business.

Mr Martin said: "We are delighted that Trend Micro has decided to expand its Cork operation by doubling in size and numbers.

"The company has rapidly developed since its arrival here in 2003 and we are delighted the Irish-based operation is playing such an important role in a truly global company."

Trend Micro, which employs 2,900 worldwide, said 35 Cork posts would be filled immediately with the rest created over the next 18 months.
