100 community drinking water hand-pumps installed in FR Peshawar.

PESHAWAR, November 06, 2009 (Balochistan Times): Owing to the hardships faced by the inhabitants of Sama Badabera in the Janakor area and seven Jawaki villages in the Sharekira area of FR Peshawar, the political authorities installed 100 community drinking water hand pumps for providing fresh drinking facility. The committee of the local elders identified the sites which will benefit a large number of local populations to get access to clean drinking water at their doorstep. It is worth mentioning that the locals especially the women folk were facing difficulties in fetching drinking water for domestic use from the far away water facilities on daily basis. Keeping the basic and urgent demand of the locals of the area, the FR Peshawar political authorities prioritized and implemented a scheme by installing 100 community drinking water hand-pumps in the area which has ensured provision of 24 hours water supply to some 490 households (15680 individuals) of the Janakor area seven villages Palosa Landai, Javed Gul Kali, Shara Khel, Lal Bar Kalli, Qazi Murad Kali, Haji Awal Khan Kali and Haji Sher Mir Kali. Each of the hand-pumps has been installed nearest to the clusters of houses, which have ensured access to maximum families to get water at their door-step. The entire process of installation of the pumps was implemented by a representative committee of the community by hiring local skilled and unskilled labour, which has resulted in speedy and quality work while local community members have been trained to operate and maintain the water supply pumps.
