100 Years of Investing in Chicago; Nuveen Calls for $1 Billion Investment in Education in Chicago.

CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1998--The John Nuveen Company is celebrating its 100th anniversary by honoring civic leaders and calling for a $1 billion investment in improving Chicago schools.

Mr. Schwertfeger issued the challenge Sunday while announcing $100,000 in Nuveen grants to foundations for Chicago public and private schools at a Nuveen-sponsored Educational Leadership event featuring retired Gen. Colin Powell. Powell currently chairs America's Promise -- The Alliance for Youth, a national campaign on behalf of young people. The event drew 600 civic leaders, educators, foundation and corporate leaders, including Nuveen officers, clients and board members.
