To work or act ineptly or inefficiently. v.tr. To handle badly; botch. See Synonyms at botch. n. council workmen painted yellow lines outside the site of a primary school - that was closed 15 years ago. Parents wanted the words 'School - keep clear' repainted at the entrance to Kilbarchan Primary, Renfrewshire Renfrewshire or Renfrew, former county, central Scotland. Under the Local Government Act of 1973, Renfrewshire became (1975) part of the Strathclyde region, but in 1996 that region was dissolved and the council areas of Renfrewshire and East , after the existing writing was obscured by roadworks. But bemused villagers were left scratching their heads when the markings appeared two streets away next to the old school premises - now luxury housing. Residents in the flats have now been barred from parking outside their homes because of the gaffe. Local Valerie Melvin said: "I can imagine the school won't be very happy about it too. It's a bit stupid of them." A council spokesman said: "The markings were painted in error. "It would appear the lines were painted on after reference to a survey which displayed markings for the old Kilbarchan Primary. "We will remove these lines in due course." |
