100 000 t/a SBR unit achieves startup in Shanghai.

The first line and the third line of the 100 000 t/a SBR (styrene-butadiene rubber) unit, the largest SBR unit in China, produced qualified products at Shanghai Chemical Industry Park on August 22nd, 2006. The second line already produced qualified products on August 12th, 2006. It shows that the 100 000 t/a SBR unit has achieved complete startup.

It is a project using the most advanced process technologies in the world, a project solely funded by Sinopec with an investment of RMB640.15 million and an important project matched to the 900 000 t/a ethylene project also located at Shanghai Chemical Industry Park.

The project started construction at the end of December 2004. Major units use the solution-based continuous production technology introduced from Asahi Kasei of Japan. (CCR2005, No. 1) Tires produced from solution-based SBR have excellent anti-skid and oil-saving properties.

Processes used in the project are selected according to the principle of clean production. The conversion rate of butadiene reaches 100%, the consumption of solvent oil per ton of rubber is only 10kg, the COD content in sewage is less than 100mg/L and almost no pollution is caused to atmosphere and water bodies.
