10 VALLEY WOMEN ARE HONORED.

WOODLAND HILLS - Ten enterprising businesswomen earned recognition Wednesday for their efforts in categories ranging from nonprofits to government work at the third annual Women who Mean Business awards.

``We felt it was time that women in the Valley were recognized,'' said Pegi Matsuda, publisher of the biweekly San Fernando Valley San Fernando Valley

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.

, won out. Kaiser Permanente Kaiser Permanente is an integrated managed care organization, based in Oakland, California, founded in 1945 by industrialist Henry J. Kaiser and physician Sidney R. Garfield.  dermatology chief Nancy Jasso won the Trail Blazer award, while Donna Borruel, co-founder of the Sunshine Child Care and Learning Centers took home Business Owner of the Year.

Councilwoman Wendy Greuel Wendy Greuel is President Pro Tempore of the Los Angeles City Council representing the 2nd District. Greuel was elected in 2002 to fill the remainder of the term of Councilman Joel Wachs. She was elected in her own right in 2003 and reelected in 2007.  earned the title Government Leader of the Year, while Jill Barad of Jill Barad and Associates was named Valley Leader of the Year. The Entrepreneur of the Year award went to Paula Croutch, a partner at Croutch Nunis & Matthews LLP LLP - Lower Layer Protocol , and Sheryl Mazirow, president of Mazirow Commercial, can now call herself Executive of the Year.

Businesses nominated more than 80 professionals for the awards, which were presented at the Warner Center Marriott Hotel.
