A division-by-division analysis:

CITY SECTION 4-A

Fans have been waiting all year for a Taft-Sylmar matchup. The perennial powers meet Friday night at Taft High.

Taft (11-0) is ranked No. 1 and figures to be the slight favorite considering the home-field advantage. The Toreadors knocked off Palisades Palisades, cliffs along the west bank of the Hudson River, NE N.J. and SE N.Y., extending from N of Jersey City, N.J., to the vicinity of Piermont, N.Y., with a general altitude of from 350 ft to 550 ft (107–168 m).  28-7, while Sylmar edged Franklin 7-0.

Taft quarterback Steve Alvarado and linebacker David Melo are preparing for a battle.

``Whoever lasts longer is going to win,'' Alvarado said.

``It's a big game, so we must stay focused,'' Melo added.

Sylmar (11-1) allows just 7.3 points per game, lowest of any local school in any division. Running back Errol Bowen (1,058 yards, 9.1 avg., 16 touchdowns) leads a balanced offense.

CITY SECTION 3-A

Red-hot Quincy Wright Philip Quincy Wright (28 December 1890 – 17 October 1970) was an American political scientist known for his pioneering work and expertise in international law and international relations.  (three 255-yard-plus performances the last six games) leads El Camino Real El Camino Real (Spanish for The Royal Road or The King's Highway) was the name of a series of pre-automobile highways linking the various New World colonies of Spain:

(8-4) against Jefferson (9-3) Friday at Canoga Park High.

Wright (1,682 yards, 22 TDs) single-handedly demolished Monroe with 269 yards and four touchdowns in a 45-6 quarterfinal win. ``We should come out on top because we're really starting to pull together,'' Wright said.

Surprising Chatsworth (7-5) plays top-seeded Carson (5-5-2) Friday at Gardena High.

The Chancellors, squeaking into the playoffs as a No. 13 seed, beat fourth-ranked South Gate in the opener and eliminated Garfield 36-14 in the second round.

SOUTHERN SECTION: DIVISION II

Hart (11-1) faces top-ranked Peninsula (12-0) at L.A. Harbor College on Friday, while the Antelope Valley This article is about the Los Angeles County region. For the census-designated place in Wyoming, see Antelope Valley-Crestview, Wyoming.

The Antelope Valley
(8-3) meets Ayala (10-1) on Saturday at Cal State Fullerton.

Hart looked sharp in a 28-6 quarterfinal win at Palmdale. Quarterback David Neill David Neill (born July 17 1980[]) was an American college football quarterback for the University of Nevada. In 1998 he set an NCAA record for most touchdown passes in a season by a freshman with 29 thrown.  (2,819 yards, 55 percent, 25 TDs) sparks the Indians' run-and-shoot.

``The key against Peninsula will be to stop their running attack and control the football,'' Hart coach Mike Herrington said.

Antelope Valley held off top-seeded Dominguez 28-25 and looks to continue its improbable postseason run against the Bulldogs. Ayala's 3,500-student body is more than 1,000 more than Antelope Valley.

``They're a big school with 60-70 players and just one two-way starter,'' Antelope Valley coach Brent Newcomb said. ``They have a lot of good athletes, but I think we have a chance if we play hard.''

``We're gonna try to stop him but we know we'll have our hands full,'' Righetti first-year coach Greg Dickinson said. ``He's definitely a big threat.''

DIVISION X

Moorpark (11-1) will face Carpinteria (9-3) on Friday. The hard-hitting Musketeers thrashed St. Bernard St. Bernard

``We're playing real well,'' said quarterback Chad Willis (1,409 yards, 19 TDs). ``The way our defense stops teams from scoring, all we have to do is put some points up to win.''

DIVISION XI

Paraclete (11-1) hopes hard-running tailback Dominic Washington's return will make the difference against powerful Yucca Valley (9-3) Friday at Quartz Hill High. Defending champion Yucca Valley eliminated the Spirits 25-15 in 1996.

Washington, nursing a sprained ankle in Saturday's 17-6 triumph over Big Bear, had rushed for 1,241 yards and 18 touchdowns his last seven games. He has 1,631 yards and 22 touchdowns for the season.

``I'm definitely playing this week,'' Washington said.

``That's good news,'' said Paraclete coach Steve Hagerty. ``If Dominic can go, then he's sure going to carry the football a lot.''

DIVISION XII
