Western Digital Corp has released the WD Vantage 10,000RPM family of Ultra2 SCSI hard drives.
Designed for entry-level servers, network-attached storage See NAS. systems, technical workstations and high-performance PCs, the 3.5-inch hard drives offer 4.6Gb per platter One of the disks in a hard disk drive. Each platter provides a top and bottom recording surface. There may be only one or several platters in a drive with each platter having its own pair of read/write heads. See magnetic disk. yielding 18.3 and 9.1Gb capacity points. Other features include a 6.6ms seek time, a robust mechanical design with a rigid, shock-resistant base casting, a low power consumption and several data protection components.
The WD Vantage hard drives are available in 50-, 68- and 80-pin SCSI connectors. Pricing was not revealed.
