1.4 MILLION TOURISTS IN 1998.


More than 1.4 million tourists visited the island of Cuba in 1998, adding an estimated US$1.8 billion to the economy, reports Radio Havana Havana (həvăn`ə), Span. La Habana (lä ävä`nä), city (1997 est. pop. 2,200,000), capital of both Cuba and of Ciudad de la Habana prov.  (December 22, 1998). Most of the visitors (55%) came from Europe,while 25% were from North America North America, third largest continent (1990 est. pop. 365,000,000), c.9,400,000 sq mi (24,346,000 sq km), the northern of the two continents of the Western Hemisphere.  and 18% from Latin America Latin America, the Spanish-speaking, Portuguese-speaking, and French-speaking countries (except Canada) of North America, South America, Central America, and the West Indies. . Most tourists came from Canada, Italy, Spain, Germany, France, Britain and Mexico. Cuba currently has a total of 28,000 hotel rooms. Some 30% of the island's hotels are operated by European European

emanating from or pertaining to Europe.
