1 killed in India school shooting

A classmate shot and killed a 14-year-old boy at a private school outside India's capital, police said.

The shooting — an exceedingly rare event in India, where gun violence is uncommon — took place at the Euro International School in the suburb of Gurgaon, senior police official Satish Balan told The Associated Press.

He said the alleged attacker recently had been in a fight with the victim, Abhishek Tyagi.

Balan said police were questioning two of Tyagi's classmates, but no arrests have been made.

"They had had some small fights in the classroom for a few days," Balan told the CNN-IBN television news station. The assailant "took his father's pistol to school with him," he said.

The shooting took place after classes ended for the day. Balan said five shots were fired at close range and all hit Tyagi, who died at the scene.
