1 DEATH EVERY DAY ON IRISH ROADS IN MAY; Four are killed over Bank Holiday.

AN average of one person was killed every day on Irish roads last month, figures revealed yesterday.

Four deaths in separate accidents over the Bank Holiday weekend brought the monthly death toll to 32.

It was the highest monthly total since February last year.

The road was closed for a number of hours following the incident but re-opened again to traffic in the early hours of yesterday morning.

Three other motorists died over the weekend with fatal collisions in counties Kildare, Mayo and Limerick Limerick, city, Republic of Ireland

A man was killed and two injured when three cars collided in Co Kildare, at around 7am on Saturday.

The crash occurred at Pike Bridge on the main Maynooth to Leixlip road.

A man in his 20s who was driving one of the vehicles was killed.

Two other men who were driving the other cars were taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown Connolly Hospital Blanchardstown (Irish: Ospidéal Uí Chonghaile, Baile Bhlainséir) (formerly James Connolly Memorial Hospital) is a public university teaching hospital in Dublin, Ireland. It was founded in 1955 as an asylum for tuberculosis (TB) patients. , West Dublin. Neither man's injuries are believed to be life-threatening.

The road was closed for a number of hours as Garda forensic investiga-tor carried out an examination of the scene. On Friday evening, a woman in her 50s died in a three-vehicle collision on the N5 at Bohola, Co Mayo.

Her car collided with another vehicle at 6.35pm. A third vehicle arrived at the scene and also crashed.

The drivers of the other two vehicles were injured, but their conditions were described by gardai as not life-threatening. The road was closed for a Garda examination.

Also on Friday evening, a man from Malaysia was killed when the car in which he was travelling smashed into another vehicle on the main Limerick to Dublin road at Kildimo, Co Limerick. The incident occurred at 6pm. Another male passenger travelling with the dead man was injured. The drivers of both cars were not injured.

The 23-year-old man who was killed has been named as Wai Kit Kwong, with an address at Eason's Avenue, Shandon Street, Cork.

And yesterday a motorcyclist was seriously injured after he crashed at a Garda checkpoint in Killua, Co Clare, on the main Ennis to Limerick dual-carriageway.
