``Who would steal a red Ford . . . and drive it around the same city you stole it out of?'' said sheriff's Sgt. Russ Hill. ``The chances of getting caught are pretty high.''

Deputies said the truck was spotted as the suspects stopped to pick up the third boy at 116th Street East and Avenue R-8, Hill said. The owner's friend approached the vehicle and confronted its occupants, telling them that they were driving his friend's truck.

The suspects drove off. After asking a neighbor to notify sheriff's officials, the friend then began to follow them in his own car, and soon was joined by a patrol car.

``As the patrol car came up behind them, the truck took off,'' Hill said. ``They took off at a high rate of speed.''

The deputy did not pursue the truck because they were near a school, but saw it stop in front of Littlerock High and its occupants run away.

Deputies caught the 17-year-old outside the school. The 16-year-old, whose name was not released because of his age, was arrested in class.

Officials said the 17-year-old was only a witness and had no knowledge of the vehicle being stolen.
