1,000 gallons of fresh juice goes to food banks, meal programs.

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 1995--One thousand gallons of fresh juice -- a rare commodity at area food banks and meal programs -- is being distributed this week by Food Lifeline, a regional supplier to direct-service programs working to end hunger in western Washington.

The donation, valued at $8,600, came from Odwalla Inc.'s Seattle Distribution Center.

Food Lifeline receives and distributes 1.1 million pounds of food and other essentials to hungry people each month -- the equivalent of 825,000 meals.

"This juice is an extremely important donation, especially for the children who make up nearly half of the people fed by neighborhood food banks," said Food Lifeline Executive Director Winifred Nazarko.

Jeff Basch, Odwalla's regional manager in the Pacific Northwest, echoed Nazarko's comments.

to our communities is an important aspect of Odwalla's philosophy," he said. "We want as many people as possible to benefit from consuming nutritious, fresh juice, and we're delighted to support Food Lifeline's tremendous efforts in ensuring that people in western Washington have enough to eat."

The juice will provide a significant source of nutrition for growing children. One eight-ounce glass of fresh-squeezed orange juice contains 250 percent of the recommended daily value (RDV RDV - Rapid Design Visualization

) of vitamin C, and accounts for 20 percent of the recommended daily servings of fresh fruit and vegetables.

Odwalla distributes fresh juice products and has been a regular contributor to Food Lifeline, but this is by far the company's largest single donation. In total, Odwalla has donated nearly 4,000 gallons of juice this year.
