1,000 flee from child residence.

Byline: DECLAN FAHY Coordinates:

Fahy is a municipality in the district of Porrentruy in the canton of Jura in Switzerland.

MORE than 1,000 escapes from a residential school for troubled children were reported in the past two years, a report has shown.

The figures, compiled by Scottish childcare expert Mike Laxton Laxton could be
  • Laxton, East Riding of Yorkshire
  • Laxton, Northamptonshire
  • Laxton, Nottinghamshire
, said that on any given night at Finglas Children's Centre an average of two out of 16 children were missing.

His report claimed the centre was not safe for children and staff at times and it might be forced to close unless there were reforms.

The report said: "It is evident that the centre is in acute crisis. It lacks direction. It is not meeting some basic standards. There are internal and undermining conflicts in the organisation.

"The young people are not receiving the level of consistent care, control and education that they require and on occasions it is not safe for young people and staff."

The report also highlighted an alleged serious breakdown in relations between staff and manage-ment.

It said: "Mistrust and suspicion continue to pervade per·vade

and undermine the organisation and that is apparent at all levels."

The document also slammed the government for "badly managing" the state's five top residential schools for troubled children.

The others are Trinity House an institution in London for promoting commerce and navigation, by licensing pilots, ordering and erecting beacons, and the like.
