.NU Domain's New SpellGuard Service Expands Domain Name Brand Protection; Unique New Service Protects Brands from Misspellings, Spelling Variation, and Typosquatting.

MEDFIELD, Mass. -- The .NU Domain Ltd today announced its new SpellGuard(TM) service to protect companies' Internet brands from keyboard errors and typosquatting. This service allows protection of up to five misspellings of a domain name, all of which will point to a company's primary domain name or URL URL

"Keyboarding errors, misspellings and variations in spellings are all ways which users can end up at the wrong Web site, resulting in brand degradation," said J. William Semich, founder and CEO (1) (Chief Executive Officer) The highest individual in command of an organization. Typically the president of the company, the CEO reports to the Chairman of the Board.  of .NU Domain. "With SpellGuard, for a very small fee an organization can protect its brands without incurring the cost and time of managing numerous variations of its primary domain name."

SpellGuard is based on .NU Domain's patent pending multilingual web routing technology.

With SpellGuard the misspelled domain names can be within 2 letters in length (shorter or longer) of the primary domain name and may have up to two changes in letters. For example mudomain.nu, mdyomain.nu or myudomian.nu could be registered as misspellings for mydomain.nu. These domains will be redirected to the primary domain, and need not be hosted by the domain name holder's ISP (1) See in-system programmable.

(2) (Internet Service Provider) An organization that provides access to the Internet. Connection to the user is provided via dial-up, ISDN, cable, DSL and T1/T3 lines.
 or Web service provider.

SpellGuard protects against typosquatting, which involves registering web addresses that are minor variations on the names of well-known, legitimate domains. The copycat addresses may involve transposing letters in the web address. Often users land on copycat sites loaded with unwanted advertising or other undesirable content.

For example, if Google had used the new SpellGuard service for its www.google.com URL, the misspelling mis·spell·ing

The same problem occurs for misspellings of Microsoft's URL, www.microsoft.com. One example is the misspelling www.microsfot.com, which points to another advertiser's Web site.

The new service has distinct benefits for multinational companies, since ASCII ASCII or American Standard Code for Information Interchange, a set of codes used to represent letters, numbers, a few symbols, and control characters. Originally designed for teletype operations, it has found wide application in computers.  versions of multilingual domains can be used as "misspellings". For example, Varlden.nu could be a misspelling of Varlden.nu (Editors Note - that's v-"a-with-two-dots"-r-l-d-e-n.nu) .NU Domain's SpellGuard is available for $5 per year per primary domain for the first five misspellings.
