Welcome to the art education online!

In the column for the January's issue of SchoolArts, I suggested criteria for evaluating the graphic design of web sites. A second component to consider is the site architecture or the structure of a site. Site architecture or structure and navigation refers to the organization of information on a website and the method in which you move through its pages. The site architecture determines if the graphic elements, page layouts :For the Wikipedia policy about articles layout, see Wikipedia:Guide to layout. Page layout is the part of graphic design that deals in the arrangement and style treatment of elements (content) on a page. , page titles, and navigation system A GPS-based electronic system in a car or truck that provides a real time map of the vehicle's current location as well as step-by-step directions to a programmed destination. See GPS and vehicle tracking.  work together smoothly. Sites with good architecture are allow you to form a visual model of the information provided, indicate where to find things, and let you know what to expect.

To begin your site architecture and navigation research Whereas originally the term Navigation applies to the process of directing a ship to a destination, Navigation research deals with fundamental aspects of navigation in general. , open the web sites recommended below and consider the following criteria, again making note of features you particularly like, for future reference.
