.500 IRISH CAN GO BOWLING.Byline: SCOTT WOLF Scott Richard Wolf (born June 4, 1968) is an American actor. Born in Boston, Massachusetts to Steven Wolf and Susan Enowitch, Wolf was raised in West Orange, New Jersey. He graduated in 1986 from West Orange High School. There are two sets of rules in college football: those for Notre Dame Notre Dame IPA: [nɔtʁ dam] is French for Our Lady, referring to the Virgin Mary. In the United States of America, Notre Dame and those for everyone else. The Fighting Irish already have their own TV network (NBC NBC in full National Broadcasting Co. Major U.S. commercial broadcasting company. It was formed in 1926 by RCA Corp., General Electric Co. (GE), and Westinghouse and was the first U.S. company to operate a broadcast network. ) and a special clause in the Bowl Championship Series, which under certain conditions awards an at-large berth as long as Notre Dame wins nine games. But Notre Dame also is covered in leaner times, like this season, with its own special bowl arrangement. The Irish are 2-6 with four games remaining. Under NCAA NCAA abbr. National Collegiate Athletic Association rules, an independent team must be above .500 to be eligible for a bowl berth. Only conferences that don't have enough teams qualifying for its bowls are allowed to award berths to .500 teams. The Irish hardly are out of the bowl picture, however, because of a little- known agreement with the Big East Conference, which allows Notre Dame to be selected to the Gator Bowl For the stadium, see . The Gator Bowl is an annual college football bowl game that is played at Jacksonville Municipal Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida. It is one of the oldest college bowls, held continuously since 1946. , Insight Bowl, Continental Tire

Bowl or San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden Bowl if the Irish are bowl-eligible and do not qualify for the BCS (1) (The British Computer Society, Swindon, Wiltshire, England, www.bcs.org) The chartered body for information technology professionals in the U.K., founded in 1957. . It's a great rule for Notre Dame. It doesn't even belong to the Big East for football, but it cherry-picks the conference's bowl bids when it needs one. ``They are eligible just like any team in our conference,'' Big East spokesman Rob Carrolla said. Why would the Big East allow itself to be exploited by Notre Dame? ``The agreement can benefit both parties,'' Carrolla said. The Big East likes including Notre Dame because the Irish make the conference more attractive when soliciting bowl packages. The Insight Bowl might not want Boston College Boston College, main campus at Chestnut Hill, Mass.; coeducational; Jesuit; est. and opened 1863. Actually a university, the school's Chestnut Hill campus comprises colleges of arts and sciences and business administration, the graduate school, and schools of nursing but sure would love Notre Dame coming to Arizona. Every bowl in America likes the idea of taking the Irish, which makes it easier to swallow the Big East as a whole when making bowl alliances. Under the four-year agreement, Notre Dame can go to two Gator Bowls in a four-year span. The Irish can go to the other three games once. Although the Big East said the agreement is valid, the NCAA is reviewing the matter to determine whether the Irish are allowed to go to a bowl with if it finishes with a .500 record. One gets the feeling the NCAA wouldn't mind if the Irish lose another game to make the matter moot. --The Toilet Bowl: Illinois plays at Indiana on Saturday in what might be the worst college game of the season. The Illini are 0-6 in the Big Ten and 1-9 overall. Indiana is 0-5 and 1-8 overall. Neither team has a victory against a Division I-A opponent. --Beast of the East: The newly revamped Big East announced Tuesday might be one of the best basketball conferences in the country, but its football prowess is questionable. Since 1998, the first year of the BCS rankings, Syracuse is the only school in the newly formed Big East to finish in the top 15 of the Associated Press poll. Despite this, commissioner Mike Tranghese defended the conference in its future form. ``We will be one of the six best football-playing conferences in the country,'' he said. ``I'm confident that we will be sitting at the table with the five other conferences.''
