..and I would drink 500 beers; Homer to pinch Proclaimers hit.
CARTOON slob Homer Simpson is to sing a Proclaimers song in the hit TV cartoon.
But beer-guzzling Homer will be adapting twins Craig and Charlie Reid's hit 500 Miles to fit his own tastes.
Instead of singing "I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more" he will warble "I could drink 500 beers."
Pals of the twins, who will be headlining the Edinburgh Hogmanay celebrations this year, say they will be thrilled at the cartoon tribute.
He said: "They've had a few celebrity fans down through the years, but Homer is king. As far as big-name endorsements go, you can't top it."
If TV bosses and The Proclaimers' management agree on a deal, the episode would air in the summer.
The Simpsons have featured a series of celebrities, from George Bush senior to Star Trek's Leonard Nimoy, making cameo appearances.
But The Proclaimers don't know yet if there's any possibility of a guest appearance playing themselves.
The song 500 Miles already has a chequered history, charting in 1988 in the UK when it was released.
It went global six years later when it featured on the soundtrack to the Johnny Depp film Benny & Joon and reached No3 in the United States.
At the time, Craig said: "I just hope we are not judged the rest of our life by just one song.
"But I'd rather have that than not have anything - to have one song that people find memorable rather than never do anything people really like."
