Two epic poems are attributed to Homer, the Iliad and the Odyssey.
 Simpson is to sing a Proclaimers song in the hit TV cartoon.

But beer-guzzling Homer will be adapting twins Craig and Charlie Reid's hit 500 Miles to fit his own tastes.

Instead of singing "I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more" he will warble "I could drink 500 beers."

Pals of the twins, who will be headlining the Edinburgh Hogmanay celebrations this year, say they will be thrilled at the cartoon tribute.

He said: "They've had a few celebrity fans down through the years, but Homer is king. As far as big-name endorsements go, you can't top it."

If TV bosses and The Proclaimers' management agree on a deal, the episode would air in the summer.
