The suggestion that the city secede se·cede intr.v. se·ced·ed, se·ced·ing, se·cedes To withdraw formally from membership in an organization, association, or alliance. [Latin s from Maharashtra state is so offensive I won't deign deign v. deigned, deign·ing, deigns v.intr. To think it appropriate to one's dignity; condescend: wouldn't deign to greet the servant who opened the door. to comment. What takes the cake, however, is the idea of having Mumbai revert re·vert v. 1. To return to a former condition, practice, subject, or belief. 2. To undergo genetic reversion. to its colonial-era name, Bombay, a British invention. Not only does it reflect a lack of seriousness, it plays to the same divisive di·vi·sive adj. Creating dissension or discord. di·vi sive·ly adv.di·vi politics the article laments. In this crisis, Mumbai deserves better from its chatterati. Sandeep Inamdar TARZANA, CALIF.
