Presidency Press Center issued a statement and quoted Gul as saying, "Turkey, being the motherland and a country having guarantor status, will continue to back Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for freedom and welfare." Gul's message said Turkey appreciated the energy and determination of the Turkish Cypriots to protect their freedom and equality.
