(ECO) U.S. UNDERSECRETARY IMPRESSED WITH TURKEY'S ECONOMIC ACHIEVEMENTS.ISTANBUL, Oct 5, 2009 (TUR tur: see ibex. ) -- A U.S. undersecretary of state said on Monday that his country was impressed with Turkey's economic achievements. Robert Hormats, the under Secretary for Economic, Energy and Agricultural Affairs at the U.S. Department of State, said that developing countries should also get the place they deserved in the table. Hormats is actually in Istanbul, Turkey for the annual meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF IMF See: International Monetary Fund IMF See International Monetary Fund (IMF). ) and World Bank, and participated in a dinner hosted by American companies in Turkey. Before the meeting, Hormats told reporters that the everybody appreciated Turkey's policies and leadership during the global crisis. Hormats said Turkey pursued correct policies during the crisis, and had a strong economic recovery. Hormats said one of the reasons of their visit to Turkey was to increase trade and investments between the two countries, and the United States was seeing Turkey as a strong economic partner, not just a security or strategic partner. Also, Hormats said he believed Turkey would take steps to reduce unemployment in time.
