(ECO) TURKISH MINISTER: WE AIM TO DEVELOP COMMERCIAL & ECONOMIC RELATIONS WITH CONGO.


ANKARA Ankara (ăng`kərə, Turk. äng`kärä), city (1990 pop. 2,533,209), capital of Turkey and Ankara prov., W central Turkey, at an elevation of c.3,000 ft (910 m). , Oct 5, 2009 (TUR tur: see ibex. ) -- Turkish State Minister Aliye Kavaf said on Monday Monday: see week.  that Turkey targeted to develop commercial and economic relations with Democratic Republic of Congo.

Kavaf and Congo's Minister for International and Regional Cooperation Raymond Tshibanda N'Tungamulongo are co-chairing Turkey-Congo Joint Economic Committee meeting which began in Ankara.

Kavaf said that Turkey --thanks to its developed industry, qualified labor force and experience in international markets-- was exerting efforts to further improve its commercial and investment relations with African countries.

Recalling that Turkey initiated "the strategy to develop commerce with African countries" in 2003, Kavaf said that this strategy yielded very successful results in many African countries.

Kavaf said that Turkey's trade volume with African continent had been 5 billion USD USD

Noting that the rise in commercial and economic relations between Turkey and Congo were slow but steady, Kavaf said that the trade volume between the two countries had been 1 million USD in 2003, and it rose to 10 million USD in 2008.

Kavaf noted that Turkey attached a special importance to Congo as it was a door to Sub-Saharan African region.

She added that Turkey could share its experiences on textile, ready-made clothing, electronics, food industry, automotive by-industry, medicine and medical equipment, construction materials and agriculture-based industry with Congo.

Kavaf said that it was important to rapidly initiate talks on free trade agreement between Turkey and Congo.

Meanwhile, Congo's minister said that the trade volume between Turkey and Congo increased in recent years, but this figure was not at desired level.

N'Tungamulongo said that they wanted Turkey to support modernization modernization
