(DIP) TURKISH PRESIDENT LEAVES FOR FRANCE TO MEET SARKOZY.ISTANBUL, Oct 7, 2009 (TUR) -- Turkish President Abdullah Gul gul n. A stylized octagonal motif in Oriental rugs. [Persian, rose; see julep.] flied to Paris, France on Wednesday. Gul will meet French President Nicolas Sarkozy and he will receive several French officials during his stay in Paris. Holding a press conference prior to his departure, Gul said that he would visit France as the guest of French president on the occasion of "Season of Turkey" in France. Gul said that he attached importance to "Season of Turkey" activities as it would introduce Turkish culture, art, Turkey's power as well as its modern and dynamic face to French people. Gul said that Turkish state ministers Hayati Yazici, Ali Babacan and Egemen Bagis would accompany him in his visit to France. Gul noted that various activities to reflect Turkish culture and art as well as many economic, commercial and social activities would take place throughout "Season of Turkey" between July 1, 2009 and March 31, 2010. President Gul said that he would inaugurate an exhibition together with Sarkozy at Grand Palais on Friday, and then they would hold a bilateral meeting to discuss cooperation between Turkey and France as well as regional and international issues. Gul said that he would attend the ministerial forum of the 35th Session of the General Conference of UNESCO UNESCO: see United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization.
