(DIP) TURKISH MINISTER SAYS IRAQI-SYRIA COOPERATION FOR BEST INTERESTS.


ISTANBUL, Sep 17, 2009 (TUR tur: see ibex. ) -- The Turkish foreign minister said on Thursday that cooperation between Iraq and Syria was for the best interests of the region.

"We have held a very constructive meeting to overcome tension between the two countries (Iraq and Syria)," Davutoglu told a press conference in Istanbul.

The first ministerial meeting of the Turkey-Iraq High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council took place in Istanbul with participation of foreign ministers of Turkey, Iraq and Syria and Arab League's Secretary General Amr Moussa.

"Maintaining this atmosphere of confidence is of utmost importance," Davutoglu said.
