(DIP) TURKEY CONGRATULATES AFGHAN PRESIDENT KARZAI.


ANKARA, Nov 3, 2009 (TUR tur: see ibex. ) -- Turkey congratulated Tuesday Hamid Karzai for having been re-elected as the president of Afghanistan Afghanistan has only intermittently been a republic - between 1973-1992 and from 2001 onwards - at other times being governed by a variety of kings, emirs and (under the mujahideen and Taliban regimes in the 1990s) Islamist rulers. .

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA See multifactor authentication. ) said that "Turkey congratulates President Karzai for getting re-elected, and wishes that the new term would be successful for the Afghan people".

Turkey believes that Afghanistan will overcome its difficulties with the unity and solidarity of friendly and brotherly Afghan people. Turkey wishes to see that those groups who opposed Karzai in the elections will support the new administration, the MFA also said.
