(DIP) CYPRIOT LEADERS MEET AT BUFFER ZONE.LEFKOSA, Jun 27, 2009 (TUR tur: see ibex. ) -- Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders met at the buffer zone in Cyprus on Friday. President Mehmet Ali Talat Mehmet Ali Talat (born July 6, 1952) is the current President of the de facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (or KKTC in Turkish), which controls the northern third of the island of Cyprus, but is unrecognized by any nation except Turkey. of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC TRNC Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus ) and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias gathered at the buffer zone in Lefkosa to discuss territory and the opening of Yesilirmak border crossing. This is the 34th meeting of the leaders aiming to find a comprehensive settlement to Cyprus problem. Cyprus talks, which were interrupted when Greek Cypriots rejected a United Nations (UN) plan (Annan plan for solution of the Cyprus issue) in the twin referendums held on April 24, 2004, resumed in September 11, 2008 following the victory of Demetris Christofias, AKEL AKEL Anorthotikon Komma Ergazemenou Laou (Cyprus; Progressive Party of the Working People) chairman, in the presidential election held in Greek Cypriot part of the island.
