(DIP) CYPRIOT LEADERS AGREE TO OPEN ANOTHER CROSSING POINT.


LEFKOSA, Jun 27, 2009 (TUR tur: see ibex. ) -- Turkish and Greek Cypriot leaders agreed Friday to open the seventh border crossing between the north and the south.

President Mehmet Ali Talat Mehmet Ali Talat (born July 6, 1952) is the current President of the de facto Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (or KKTC in Turkish), which controls the northern third of the island of Cyprus, but is unrecognized by any nation except Turkey.  of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC TRNC Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus ) and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias met for the 34th round of Cyprus peace talks.

Leaders have agreed to open the Yesilirmak crossing in the northwest of the island, a UN official announced after the meeting of Talat and Christofias.

Taye-Brook Zerihoun, UN Secretary-General's Special Representative to Cyprus, said UN peacekeeping force would escort Cypriot people during their crossing between Turkish and Greek Cypriot sides.

Leaders also continued to debate "territory" topic of talks at their meeting.

Cyprus talks, which were interrupted when Greek Cypriots rejected a UN plan (known as Annan plan for solution of the Cyprus issue) in the twin referendums held in April 24, 2004, resumed in September 11 of 2008 following the victory of Demetris Christofias, AKEL AKEL Anorthotikon Komma Ergazemenou Laou (Cyprus; Progressive Party of the Working People)  chairman, in the presidential election held in Greek Cypriot part of the island.

Talat and Christofias have discussed management and share of power, property, European Union (EU) issues so far.
