(DIP) 'PRIVILIGED PARTNERSHIP' DOES NOT EXIST IN EU ACQUIS, PM ERDOGAN.BRUSSELS, Jun 27, 2009 (TUR tur: see ibex. ) -- Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Friday there is no partnership arrangement called 'privileged partnership' in the EU acquis. "Our partnership with the EU is for full membership. This is what we are working for. Aside from full membership, it is impossible for us to accept any other partnership with the EU," Erdogan said. In response to a question on EU's expansion and the Alliance of Civilizations The Alliance of Civilizations is a United Nations Secretary-General initiative intended to galvanize collective action across diverse societies in order to combat extremism, overcome cultural and social barriers between mainly the Western and predominantly Muslim worlds, and to initiative co-sponsored by Turkey and Spain, Erdogan said that the definitions of EU expansion and the expansion of the Alliance of Civilizations are different. The EU must continue expansion if it wishes to be a political, social and economic power, Erdogan said. As far as the Alliance of Civilizations is concerned, cultures, religions and civilizations are all within the alliance. Our doors are open to all cultures, religions and civilizations. We support the Alliance of Civilizations to facilitate global peace, Erdogan also said.
